Imagine that you have been invited to the wedding of Kate and William on the 29th of April this year. You will need a hat or a crown, a fab and funky hat/crown...something different, something to make you stand out in the crowd .... go on... go for it.. lets see yours. the wackier the better xxx

To join in with the swap make 5 ATC's on the above theme and swap 4 keeping one for your own collection.

However if you don't wish to join in with the swap but would like to create just one ATC on our monthly theme then please feel free to do so then leave a comment and link us back to you, we will visit you and look at your creation.

Above are 2 of my April creations.

We did hope to have Mr Linky set up however I havnt worked out how to just yet, I did go over to Chris's to do it but both her mum and dad were admitted to hospital and within 24hrs my mum was too.... Chris reckons we were seperated at birth as we have so much in common.. there is no show without punch. Time wasnt on our side it was hospital visits.

AN UPDATE....

Now then you all know how much I love Crafty Individual Stamps from Jean and Malcolm.
Jean, if you don't already know has opened her very own blog :) you can find her over here... http://craftyindividualsblog.blogspot.com/ I am just so excited that she has decided to run a monthly challenge for us so why not pop over and give her a great BIG warm welcome to blogland.

I have completed my finger painting on text paper for this months Artist Trading Cards.... the 3 below are mine for the swap my other two are further down on another post.

A bit scoooowy wifffffy as I failed to scan them straight...lol. TRY TILTING YOUR HEAD TO THE RIGHT as you look at them it just may help.

As you can see I have used an old map from a book which I started altering about 6 months ago and NO I never got to finish it .... but hope to one day.

Now for the start of the Bird challenge set for us by our talented artist and friend Godelieve the 2 below are hers, you may remember them.

The colours and embossing are gorgeous you will agree.

Crafty Individual stamp on the above and once again colour stands out.

Whoever receives them will love them.

Using a fantastic stamp designed by Crafty Individuals she created a fun filled ATC well 5 of them to be exact and those feathers she she used she plucked from her feather duster leaving it almost bare and so now she is unable to get rid of the cobwebs in her house giving her more time to be creative.... girl after my own heart

All the way from Alberta Canada we have Electa's oh I am just loving the colours

And hey that bird is wrapped up well as I know the winters in Canada can be rather cold, I was on holiday in Alberta about 11 years ago in July/august and one day the heavens opened and from out of the sky fell millions of golf balls.... I swear I thought they were as they were soooo big I had never seen hail stones like it before they were making dents in some cars.... AND I do remember strawberry's the size of apples and apples the size melons.... well nearly.

I just had to show you the back of these atc's too.

Sorry yours are a bit lopped sided too so if you could just tilt your head or maybe stand on it you may get a birds eye view of them

The one that catches my eye is the top left the 5 birds all cut from coordinating papers.

Anesha's finger painting ATC's for March

Just thought that I would show you Anesha's ''finger painting background'' Artist Trading Card swaps for the month of March

I just love these stamps from the man himself T.H. I also have them in my collection of ever growing 'rubber', just don't seem to be able to stop myself from buying a little something each month.... I am sure it's an illness once over it was shoes until I saw the light. lol

Anesha the backgrounds are even more gorgeous in real life and the colours are perfect together.. whoever receives one of these in the swap will be very lucky.... do you want to be in with a chance of owning one in your collection I know I do.

March challenge ''finger painting backgrounds on an old book page.''

We have all at sometime or another done a bit of finger painting..... I just love getting my hands dirty with paint and so for the month of March I have chosen 'BACKGROUNDS' once again it's an open theme.

Here I took an old page from an old book I have been altering chose acrylic paints in pink, green, white and gold.
I rubbed white paint onto the page first but not covering all the words and then splodged on the other 3 colours as each colour dried so as not to end up with a pool of muddiness.

Once the page was dry I glued an Artist Trading Card blank to the page and cut round it.

All ready to create my ATC's, here I have so far completed 2 for this months challenge.

Many thanks to Chris for hosting February's challenge of 'Easel Artist Trading Cards' Once I have taken photos of the swaps I will upload them for you to see Thankyou for joining in.

From April it has been decided to add Mr Linky to the monthly challenge post allowing you to upload your ATC swaps to your blog then we can come and visit you.

Thankyou and welcome to our new people who have taken part in Chris' challenge also welcome to our new followers.

We have had alot of enquiries as to how swappers outside of the UK can cover the cost of postage for their returns and as our international swappers are growing it has been made so easy rather than send dollars etc...

On posting out your Artist Trading Card swaps you just pay the postage into my Paypal account please email me for more information....It's so simple to do It's already up and running thanks to those who have deposited your postage to cover the cost... I don't know why I didnt think of it before.

A day late I know, sorry as I was away for a little break and although Chris our lovely Artist Trading Card designer for this month did try to put the challenge up for you on the 1st Feb but she was unable to get onto the 'Swap 'til you drop' club blog and to top that she was unable to contact me 'cos I had a very flat mobile with me.

However she loaded the challenge for February onto her own blog for us .... You can find the link just HERE.

She decided to leave it as an open theme BUT challenge us to create 5 Easel ATC's.... Chris has even supplied us with a tutorial and a template So please pop over and take a look.

Belated Happy 2011

A very belated Happy 2011.

Thank you for all the lovely supporting emails I have received I am ready to get our club on track again, It has been running for just over 4 years with thousands of lovely swaps being made long may it continue.

I have my head around it now with the help of Debbie and your lovely emails of encouragement and thanks for the hard work put into running it.... I must say it was a joy to do but this last few months STUFF got in the way.

To those of you who are waiting for your Man to man and Bird swaps I will let you know just as soon as I have them organised.

There are one or 2 swaps not yet gone out and I will be in touch with you soon.

Tina, in answer to your question 'will there be a Jan swap' the answer is no, sorry however I am delighted to say that our first 2011 swap will be Feb 1st and will be hosted by the gorgeous Chris of Blin-kin-eck.
I am soooo looking forward to that as I have missed making and swapping mt ATC's.

Here we are again, another month another challenge this time from another very talented designer whom I met through Chris a little over 3 years ago when I first started blogging.

Godelieve is from Belguim and not only is she a busy mum and a creative artist she is also a talented photographer and has used one of her photos which she took yesterday morning of this gorgeous Robin in 2 of her Artist Trading Cards she has created for us this month.

Godelieve also sent us the picture of her Robin and gives all our lovely members and readers permission to use it in their art work or on their Christmas cards.

My name is Godelieve Tijskens.
I’m living in a small village in Belgium, with my husband. We have two grown sons. One of them needs special care, and is living with us. He takes a lot of our time.

After doing several other crafts, such as knitting, embroidery and sewing, I started making cards.
I love to use stamping, several styles and techniques but often my cards are quick and easy. Distress inks, Ecoline inks and heat embossing are some of my favorite things in card making these days.

I’m a design team member of Art Journey and Darkroom Door.
My work has been published in Craft Stamper Magazine and Art Specially Magazine.

I don't do anything by halves... lol.... I have never been sooooooo physically ill apart from the time I was 6mths pregnant and had bronchial pneumonia.... This is how bad it has been ......I have not even been well enough for my pals Chris and Debbie to visit me and be able do Crafty stuff with them....SORRY Chris and Deb.... I will make it up to you when I am out of my sick bed. I have lost some weight though so something good has come out of this hahaha.

I hope to get MY Nov ATC's made this weekend....so anyone who has not yet had time to complete Heathers Masculine challenge there still time to get them in and due to the bad weather and mail I am going to leave Novembers challenge open until the end of December along with Godelieve's BIRD challenge, please send them in together, no problems.

Thank you for all of your good wishes that came my way during a bad time but I am back and back to deliver, I have missed this blog and all it's wonderful followers the lovely people I consider to be my blogland friends.

It will take some catching up but I will get back on track.

And so to start us off we have a fab challenge from a lovely friend and well known mixed media artist in both blogland and the craft world.... The lovely Heather and if you don't already know her you do not know what you are missing....go visit her gawjuss blog you will be glad that you did.

Who knew that a rubber stamp of a Scottie dog would lead to a passion for mixed media art?

I'm Heather Robinson and I am a self-taught mixed media/altered art/collage artist with roots in rubber stamping.

Up until about 5 years ago, I was a stamping whirlwind making greeting cards by the hundreds.

A good friend convinced me (reluctantly at first) to try making artist trading cards and my world opened up from there.

I began dabbling in collage and it felt to me like “coming home”. I had always had an interest in altering books, likely spurred on by the fact that I’m a librarian and spend my days surrounded by books, but I had never really devoted much time to it.

That changed when I was invited to participate in a number of round robin journal projects.

Recent passions include beeswax collage, encaustic art and art journaling.

I have been published in “Rubber Stamper”, “Stampers' Sampler”, “Take Ten” and “Artful Blogging” magazines.

Linda's Triptych Treasures

Freelance mixed media artist for this fabulous challenge is the very talented Linda.

Here s what Linda told us about herself...

I was born in Perth, Western Australia but travelled across the Nullabor with my boys a couple of years back and planted my feet firmly in Sydney.

I have tried a lot of arts and crafts and mostly enjoy experimenting with mixed media. I began my passion for paper as a scrapbooker but went on to ATCs and other off the page projects before settling into collage type art. Currently I keep busy with two young sons, my study (bach. degree of social science & bach. degree in arts), as well as teaching and promoting my art around Australia...someday I hope to go international.

I have been published in a handful of craft magazines for my ATCs and cards and enjoy working on design teams for companies such as Paper Artsy, Scrapware and Altered Pages.
The sky is the limit and I am having a blast :)

I LOST THE PLOT

Hi,

Have you ever lost the plot, don't know where your going and life gets in the way of the things you know you should be doing but the longer you leave it the harder it is to do it and no amount of reasoning with yourself can change that.

Then the panic and anxiety attacks take over.... I have been here many times but not to the stage where this lovely blog has suffered.

Wth the help of my crafty pal Chris (who you all know) I am back on my computer for the 1st time in 2months. Thank you Chris. x

Sorry there has not been any challenges for a little while and that your lovely swaps have not been sent out...that is about to change as help is coming my way from friends Chris and Debbie.

Hello,

I am Mimi the new member of the family and I am the reason my mummy didn't blog on Thursday night as promised.... I gave her such a fright

I went off to see Mark my vet on Thursday afternoon ....now if ever you need a vet and you live near to me I recommend Mark he is soooo nice...well as I was saying I am the reason mummy didn't post your challenge.... I had my second vaccination and was very poorly after it ...I was sick on Thursday night and I still keep falling asleep and I am off my food too.... and every time mummy moves away from me I just follow her so she has been nursing me for 3 days and I am loving it. ;)

If you are wondering what I am..besides being one spoiled pup I am a Pug-Zu...my daddy is a Pug and my biological mummy is a Shitz Tzu... My mummy Chriss is so pleased I am not a Shit-Pug although I lived up to that name for sometime when I came to live with Marley and her.... b4 coming to live here I had some other parents who chose me from the litter but 12 weeks later they decided they no longer wanted me :(... and my Auntie Cheryl my mums daughter cunningly asked Claire my foster mum if she could borrow me for a little while just so she could show me off to Chriss...who by the way NEVER, NEVER, NEVER wanted a dog and the rest is history Mummy fell in love with me in seconds....well who could blame her after all I am gorgeous.

So to date I have had A biological mummy, parents who kept me from the litter, my foster mum Claire who looked after me until I was adopted by Mummy Chriss and Marley.

We have been very busy toilet training and it is soooo hard work believe me but I think mummy is really pleased with me 'cos she keeps telling me I am a 'good girl'.

I have been learning all about Artist Trading Cards and here is a glimpse of what July's challenge is about .... we know we are late but we will put that right and catch up... thank you for all the lovely comments.

OH how I loved working with paper designing dresses for her and I am going to get the chance again to create some gorgeous little outfits for this challenge.

About Margaret,

I am a self-taught mixed media artist living in Switzerland.
I love all things paper and paint and have recently renewed my interest in machine stitching. I've been blogging for a couple of years and feel very privileged to be part of such a wonderful creative community.

At the beginning of this year I set up a project called 'Dress Up' on my Blog.

I invited blogger's to make and display a dress every month and post a link. I've been overwhelmed by the positive response and have had so much fun blog hopping, meeting new faces and admiring so many beautiful creations.

When Chriss asked me if I would be June's Guest Designer we both immediately fell upon the idea of a mini 'Dress Up' ATC.

Here are Margaret's fabulous ATC's she is putting up for Junes swaps and if you would like to be in with a chance of owning one then all you have to do is join in this months theme with us.

A while ago I was shown how to make a folder page pocket which can be used for all sorts of things!!

I decided to use this idea as the ATC and make a little dress that tucks neatly into the pocket.

Start by cutting or ripping your page into a 13cm x 19.5 rectangle

I like to sew around the pocket to stabilize it, however if you don't have a sewing machine you could hand stitch around the edges to add a bit of texture

You can decorate the pocket if you like, I added some tissue scraps to the back and front to give it a little colour.

Cut the dress template to fit your pocket and get decorating!

The 1st of May and another challenge has been set for us by our lovely guest designer, self taught multi-media artist Gaby.... this lady is soooo talented please be sure to check out her blog over H E R E

Now then anyone who knows me will know I LOVE backgrounds and Gaby has set us a background challenge for this months theme, I myself have never tried it and so out of my comfort zone once again, lol :))

Over to Gaby....

For those of you who don’t know me yet, I’m Gaby from Germany.

I am a self-taught mixed media artist. I have a lot of interests, with a focus on collage.

This form allows me to use so many different methods and materials. My art is spontaneous.

I like the creative process, layering of many different materials including paint, ink, paper, photographs and found elements.

I love all kinds of art, but my special love is the ATCs. I’m always interested in new techniques and challenges, so my art can continue to evolve… only my everyday "job" sets the limits...

It’s a real honor to be invited as May’s guest designer. Thank you Chriss!

My theme for this month is “The Peeling Paint Technique” that Claudine Hellmuth popularized in her College Discovery Workshop book.

I really love this peeled paint effect and I use it often for the backgrounds.

A short explanation for those who don’t know this technique:

First Step, apply a base coat of paint on your card stock.

Wait for paint to dry fully.

Than apply petroleum jelly intermittently over surface areas, covering areas that you want to expose when the paint peels during a later step.

Apply the petroleum jelly thickly enough to cover the surface that you want to peel. You can use your fingers or a paintbrush.

Paint over the entire surface using a different color of paint. . Allow the paint to dry.

Apply a second coat if desired.

Remove the petroleum jelly, using a soft cloth or paper towel.

The second colour of paint peels off at the same time.

Clean the surface to remove lingering traces of petroleum jelly.

If you like, seal your surface with an acrylic medium such as Golden medium.

Decorate as desired.

You can apply the petroleum jelly over a collage or piece of art work, and then paint over top.

However, you must seal the collage surface first with a coat of acrylic medium. Otherwise, the jelly soaks through your paper.

I am so happy that Patty agreed to be our GD she is not only talented but is also a very warm and giving person and I am thrilled to have met her in blog land.

I asked Patty for a little Bio... here is what she said......

I am a self taught mixed media artist living in Virginia just outside of Washington DC. Playing with paper, fibers, photography and more is my idea of fun.

If it holds still, it might get altered.
Giving items like cutlery, old tins and rusty bits a new life is exciting to me.
Nothing goes to waste.

I have enjoyed making a variety of things since I was a girl.
Creating daily …“playing” as I like to call it … is a kind of therapy for me and helps me keep my balance and feel fulfilled.

When I started blogging back in October 2007 I had no idea the lovely connections I would make all around the globe.

There is so much caring and sharing in the mixed media community. I am inspired each and every day and delighted by kind visitors to my Magpie’s Nest Blog.

Sadly my last Friday as GD over at 'Something Completely Different' their theme for this week being 'TIME'

So much can be covered with this challenge I chose 'bath time' using some fab stamps from 'Paper Forest Designs' based in Australia why not pop over they have a great SALE on at the moment.
The letters making up the words 'Bath Time' I borrowed from my crafty pal Chris' one of Artistic Stampers alphabet set.
I included Rangers Glossy Accents as water splashes and on the letters too.

Today I received a letter from Jenny a club member...this is how it went...

I feel I should write to let you know my thoughts on Febs challenge and the ATC club website,

The challenge was quite confusing... 'Cookies' to me means biscuits or small cakes but the challenge seemed to be doodles...random scribbles on note pads etc...

The website is confusing also whilst it may be nice to know what you and your family are up to I think this website should be only for the club.

Please make competitions from other sites separate.

I hope that you will not think my comments too negative.

(ME) Have I got it wrong ???

This is a non profit making club I just enjoy receiving and swapping little pieces of ART from around the world scanning and uploading the ATC's to offer inspiration to our members followers and readers and in doing so spreading the word here in the UK re ATC's.

From time to time I may mention myself and family as part of our community spirit when I go over to other members I read what is written re their families and it's like we all know each other, I feel bringing us closer together even though we are sometimes 1000's of miles apart.

If you would prefer I Keep it just for ATC's please let me know.

The competitions mentioned must be the last 3 weeks where I have been delighted to be GD over at 'Something Completely Different' where I have posted my ATC on our club blog and then linked it to their challenge....I am unsure as to how I am meant to keep this challenge separate from the club blog.

If you feel I have got this blog all wrong then please could our club members let me know.

3rd week GD at Something Completely Different

It's Friday and my 3rd week as GD over at Something Completely Different the theme for your ATC challenge is 'KEYS' set by the SCD design team.

Their examples of the challenge are on the SCD blog... follow the link high lighted above.

My KEY is one of CI's stamps I have used it for my 'strange' guys arms, and this fab, fun stamp is from 'Its a mans world' sheet designed by Joyce Howton over at Paper Forest Designs, the word 'strange' is from a Paperartsy plate.. the brick of a mobile...lol...sorry cannot remember ..lol... my mobile looks just like that, I have had it 6 yrs and '

it's only my second mobile in 11 years....lol... takes me that long to work out how to use them...the background is from a postcard which is dear to my heart.

If you would like to join in with these weeks challenge then create your keys ATC pop it on your blog leave a note in the comments over at SCD and we will come visit you.

There is a swap at the end of the 4 wk ATC slot which Carol is running, send in 1 or all 4 of the themed ATC's to be swapped... next week being the last ATC challenge on SCD. (NOT THE LAST SWAP IN OUR ATC CLUB...DONT GET MIXED UP, LOL.)

Week 2 Guest Designer at SCD

This weeks challenge over at 'something completely different' is to create an ATC on the theme of 'WINGS'

I was playing with some new stamps from 'Paper Forest Designs' and I came up with 2 ATC's to show for this weeks challenge...actually I came up with 3 but I am saving the wacky blue one for another time....sorry :)

The top one being the one I am sending in to Carol to be swapped at the end of the 4 ATC challenges for February. Since scanning the ATC I have clear embossed the words and part of her wings.

Guest ATC Designer over at SCD

Happy Friday and hey I am so excited as I have been asked to be this months Guest Designer over at Something Completely Different you will find them H E R E... When Carol asked me I thought... ME! ....Do you really mean me... well once I knew she meant it I jumped at the chance and I am thrilled to join SCD design team for the month of February taking on the challenge of creating 4 ATC's on a set theme 1 a week... well I love a challenge don't I.

The challenge this week is MAD MARCH HARE well I have hundreds of stamps but not one single stamp to do with Alice, (Alice who the hell is Alice?..lol) and so as not to be beaten here is my take on the challenge....

'3 WISE MEN AND 1 MAD HARE'

Both the wise men and the hare stamp are those of Crafty Individuals.

Carol who runs SCD has also suggested and kindly agreed to run an ATC swap at the end of the month.

So the creative team on SCD hope lots of you will take part.

Join in the fun and upload your ATC onto your blog and we will come and Visit.

At the end of the month send Carol either 1,2,3 or ALL 4 ATC's with an S.A.E., (large letter stamp)and you will receive 1f or 1 back. A little piece of someone elses creativeness dropping through your door :)

February ATC Cookie Challenge

Hello all,

Once again the 1st of the month is here and it's our February challenge time...2months into 2010....that's scary!

Time to introduce you to our lovely ATC Guest Designer.....Some of you may remember our good blogging friend Donna aka 'Cookie Sunshine' mostly for her 'work of art' birthday cakes, her cupcake drawings and not forgetting her lovely Mum Elizabeth, Elizabeth suffered Alzheimer's and sadly she passed away, Donna gave up her blogging.

Donna has been missed in blog land and I am soooo pleased that she has returned and opened another blog and agreed to be here with us this month.

WELCOME BACK DONNA.

Anyone remember this as one of her sketches, there are plenty more where this one came from.

This next piece of info on Donna, I took from Donna's business blog and there is more to read should you wish to.

I don't remember the incident but Mother told me that I grabbed a can of fake snow and decided to decorate the entire house. I was very little, just two or three. I was discovering colors about the same time.

Apparently I was also discovering walls. My parents wanted to encourage my creativity so Daddy purchased my first art desk right away. I just wanted to see images and color.
My aunt Jeanette encouraged me in another direction. She taught me the fine art of cutting paper. This was good. Whenever we visited her house I came face to face with a stack of catalogs, a big box, and round tip scissors. Glue and paper followed later. I liked it. Paper dolls became a passion of mine.

And as they say the rest is history

Donna says...

About two months ago Chrissy Rollins contacted me and asked if I would like to participate as the February guest designer for her wonderful blog. Oh My Goodness! Thank you Chrissy!

I was so thrilled. I said "yes" right away. I began thinking about the ATC's that I wanted to share as my art has evolved continually over the past six years since I began sharing it online.

I hope I'm doing this correctly.

These are all digital as they are made up of images from previous paintings, collages, illustrations, and photos that have been put together to create each ATC. I call them "Cookies" in honor of my previous blog - Cookie Sunshine. I have included Cookie Sunshine in each card.

I will be printing each one of these one time only and will add hand embellishments that are not seen here.

Then I will destroy the file. I hope you like them. They will be appropriately signed and identified on the back.

We have all doodled and every Telephone directory in the world must have been doodled on...do you agree?

And so what the challenge involves is 'doodling' on the backgrounds be it in colour or pen and ink, that's up to you :)

I gave it a little thought tonight and came up with the idea of doodling an A4 card and when finished cut it into ATC size.... you get 9 out of an A4 and there you have your 5 backgrounds (with 4 left over) without having to work on a small 2.5x3.5 canvas

You are now ready for your next bit of art ...magazine cuttings, your own drawings, stamping,

wow the more I think about this the more I am getting excited and raring to go....

Don't forget to add the odd embellishment by hand and there you have it your very own 'COOKIES' ready to swap and no calories...lol.

Sunday last week this ATC was up for grabs to anyone who knew the female on the right with the cupcake on her head... she come with a selection of CI mini stamps that I have doubles of.

No one attending the party got it and so here are a few clues for you to help and all those that email me the correct answer will have their names drawn from the hat...please send me the answer by Wednesday midnight.

She demonstrates how to encourage good behaviour by using House Rules to set boundaries and the Naughty Step to reinforce discipline at home and that's just for the parents...lol.
